• I have a problem installing themes and plugins on my server.
I’m setting WordPress up on my own webserver:
    Ubuntu 10.04
    Apache 2.2.14
    PHP 5.3.2
    MySQL 5.1.41
    WordPress 3.0

Problem I have is when I try to install a new theme or new plugin it doesn’t start installing but promts me instead for:
    Connection Information
To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access to your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.
    Hostname
    FTP Username
    FTP Password
    Connection Type
    Connection Type FTP FTPS (SSL)

Even though I’m not happy with that the auto install didn’t work I tried to use the FTP method. I filled out the connection information, but on proceed I get error: “Username/Password incorrect for xxx”

I know for sure the username and password are correct, tried it with ftp client and sftp client from outside computer.

I have been reading a lot to find a solution and to try something I used chmod 777 on all files and directories under wordpress but nothing happens.

I’m pretty sure this is some server issue (ubuntu, apache, php, etc …), because I can put up a WordPress site on another server without this problem.

    Can someone help me?

  • exactly same problem here.. wonder what’s going on.. any solution plz

    Try this solution:

    http://www.chrisabernethy.com/why-wordpress-asks-connection-info/

    Hope this helps,
    Daniel

Had the same problem, but rather than use a solution that changes ownership/permissions, and opens up security holes, try this one to allow SSH connections in WP:

    http://blog.homelinux.org/?p=83

After uploading the theme it can be seen, but as soon as I try to either activate or preview I get the following: –
    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Apache Server at xxxxxx.com Port 80

This then bloicks the site until I remove the file.

I have downloaded the theme twice on using both IE and Firefox but still the same result.

    Any help available?

I’ve got the same problem- can’t upload or delete any plugins through WordPress without the prompt, and then none of my passwords work for it. Also, my Contact 7 forms don’t work- they look like they’re sending, give the success notice, but no email ever gets sent.

I had to set up the server myself using yum. I have no idea what I’m missing. Whatever it is is causing my RAM to climb ever higher all the time.

    Please help!
